Horse racing tips: Monday, July 21

Our in-house horse racing expert, Ron Wood, has had four winners from his previous nine tips (not including non-runners), including an 8/1 shot and a 9/2 NAP on Saturday, and is well in profit with his selections for the year. Monday's UK and Irish racing (Flat unless stated) Cartmel (jumps) 1.42-4.50; Racing TV Ayr 2.00-5.15; Racing TV Windsor 5.10-8.40; Sky Sports Racing Ballinrobe 5.30-8.30; Racing TV Beverley 6.20-8.50; Racing TV Ron Wood's selections NAP Forest Caper (4.05, Ayr) 1pt win @ 5/2 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Other Flowstate (2.30, Ayr) 1pt win @ 100/30 with William Hill ⭐⭐ Odds provided by William Hill and correct at the time of writing. Stars denote strength of selection (maximum five). If you already have a William Hill account and are looking for a new bookmaker to use on this week's racing, check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts 2.30, Ayr – Class 6 Handicap (6f; Racing TV) The David O'Meara-trained FLOWSTATE is 0-6 in handicap company, but when fourth in a Class 5 at Doncaster on his latest outing he was one place behind a runner who then won a Class 4 at Ayr. This pick now drops into a Class 6 for the first time and his maiden victory came on soft ground, so the ease underfoot is in his favour. 4.05, Ayr – Class 5 Handicap (1m; Racing TV) Another O'Meara charge, FOREST CAPER probably has improvement in him and looks a reasonable bet to make a successful handicap debut. This Lope De Vega gelding has run to a fair level in three starts in maiden and novice company, and his breeding suggests that getting on slow ground for the first time could help him. Forest Caper, who like Flowstate will be ridden by Daniel Tudhope, is a half-brother to seven winners, quite a few of them smart types. Where is Ryan Moore riding on Monday? Moore had three Group-race winners at the Curragh over the weekend, but has no booked rides today. And where is William Buick riding today? Buick is booked for three mounts at Windsor this evening, including Port Of London, a newcomer who goes in a maiden (6.40) for the jockey's employers, Godolphin. It will be interesting to see what this Night Of Thunder colt, trained by John and Thady Gosden, can do. When is the next big racing festival? The week-long Galway Festival kicks off in Ireland next Monday (July 28), followed a day later by Glorious Goodwood. Check out the latest Glorious Goodwood free bets and betting offers. The latter is a five-day fixture and is set to feature the Kingman colt Field Of Gold, possibly the best horse in the world, in the Sussex Stakes on July 30, one of three Group 1s at the meeting. What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. Many horse racing tipsters pick out a 'NAP of the day', which is their favoured selection from all the races across the different meetings. The term NAP derives from the French card game Napoleon. When players of this game thought they had a particularly strong hand that they would win with, they would shout 'Napoleon'. Horse racing tips: ‘No penalty for hammering rivals last time out' – Templegate's Monday NAP

TEMPLEGATE'S Monday picks are below. Back a horse by clicking their odds. RECOBELLA (8.20 Beverley, nap) Hammered her rivals at Nottingham last week and crucially escapes a penalty for that win in an apprentice race. It was her second run for the yard and first try over 1m2f in Britain, which brought about marked improvement. With conditions ideal and confidence high, she can follow up with plenty to spare. MILTEYE (8.50 Beverley, nb) Got his reward for a string of consistent runs when landing a big-field handicap at Carlisle on soft ground. A 3lb rise looks lenient, he stays well and the rain is a plus. OPAL STORM (6.50 Beverley, treble) Was second in this last year and went close in a higher grade at Ayr last time. She handles soft ground and has a good record over today's trip. JUDGE FRANK (8.40 Windsor, Lucky 15) Returned to form with a close third at Bath last time and is close to his last winning mark. She'll be hard to hold out back at this level. ■■■■■NEXT BEST TEE EIGHT (Race 1 No. 4) The Allan and Jason Williams-trained Tee Eight closed well over 1400m on debut and will be better for it. Rates a top chance to break through second-up. PROSHOW (Race 9 No. 4 – $4.40) The four-year-old has performed well on the synthetic at both runs this time in. He's back to turf but will be fitter again for this. ■■■■■VALUE BET EVERETT (Race 6 No. 8 – $13) Everett hasn't raced since December 2023 but her recent trials have been encouraging and she resumes in a winnable assignment at Bairnsdale. ■■■■■**** LAY OF THE DAY **** TOP SECRET (Race 1 No. 6 – $3.90) Top Secret led and weakened to be beaten more than seven lengths first-up. On The Punt: Flemington best bets for Saturday, July 19, 2025

News Corp form analyst Chris Vernuccio takes a look at the Flemington meeting on Saturday. â– â– â– â– â– BEST BET OYSTER LANE (R4 No.3): Oyster Lane was nabbed late on debut by smart colt Sonofkirk in a fast race at Caulfield. He stays at the 1000m (albeit down the Flemington straight now) and should improve on that run and looks a very promising two-year-old. NEXT BEST SAYEDATY SADATY (R8 No.7): Sayedaty Sadaty broke through for his first Australian win at the track and distance after two placings. The Ciaron Maher import can hold that form fourth-up and will take some beating again with Craig Williams on board. ARCORA (R2 No.2): Arcora has placed in both runs this prep at Flemington and is ready to step up to 1800m. He led the field last time out but is probably better suited having a back to follow. LAY OF THE DAY THE JOCKEY John Allen has just three rides early in the day but they're either favourite or second favourite. ARCORA (R2 No.2 – $3.50), EM SIXTY (R3 No.4 – $4), OYSTER LANE (R8 No.6 – $2.70).
